DOWNLOADResetting Google Chrome settings is a way to get your browser back to work, remove malicious extensions and add-ons, restore your home page and the page that opens when you create a new tab, as well as the ability to return Google as your default search engine.
Reset Google Chrome settings
When performing this operation, Google Chrome browser will set the personal settings to the state that was immediately after the installation of the program. This means that the Google page will be displayed as the homepage and page being opened when creating a new tab. The search engine will be replaced by Google. All extensions are disabled and all attached tabs are detached. Moreover, Chrome will delete all temporary and cached data, including cookies and downloaded data from sites you have viewed.
Resetting Chrome settings will help you quickly get rid of various unwanted changes, such as: changing the search engine, pop-up windows, annoying ads, occasionally redirecting you to websites you don’t need. Moreover, this operation is not dangerous for your personal data, that is, resetting the settings will not delete saved bookmarks and passwords.
How to reset settings in Google Chrome
In the instructions below, you will be shown three different ways to reset the settings. I recommend using the first and second if you need to reset the settings due to the incorrect operation of the browser or its extensions. The third method is useful in cases where your browser is infected with adware (adware), which shows a large amount of annoying ads and blocks the restoration of personal settings (home page, default search engine).
1. Reset browser settings using a special address
Run Google Chrome and in the address bar type the following chrome text: chrome://settings/resetProfileSettings. Press Enter. The browser will show you a window asking you to confirm your actions.
Confirm your decision by clicking the Reset button. I want to remind you that your bookmarks and passwords are saved and will not be deleted.
2. To restore the default settings, follow these simple steps.
Launch Google Chrome and open its main menu by clicking on the button in the form of three horizontal bars (the button calling the main Google Chrome menu). You will see a window similar to the example below.
In this menu, select the Settings item by clicking on it with the mouse. Thus, the browser will open the page with the address chrome://settings, which will allow you to set or change the basic settings of Google Chrome.
Now you need to scroll down the page. Use the scroll bar at the end of the screen, the scroll wheel of your mouse or the down arrow on the keyboard. Scroll until you see the Show advanced settings link.
Click this link. It will disappear and below you will see a list of additional Google Chrome options. Scroll down again until the Restore settings to their original defaults heading appears.
Click the Reset Settings button. Google Chrome will show you a window asking you to confirm your actions.
Confirm your decision by clicking the Reset button. I want to remind you that your bookmarks and passwords are saved and will not be deleted. After clicking on this button, the browser settings will be reset to the original.
