Improvements and fixes to KB4517211 (Build 18362.387)

This update includes quality updates. New system features are not presented. List of key changes:

  • Fixed the problem of increasing the size of vertical fonts when printing on a PostScript printer.
  • Fixed a problem that could lead to disconnection of the VPN connection in mobile data networks.
  • Fixed playback and audio recording crash when connecting to a remote virtual machine.
  • Fixed a problem that could block updating from old to new versions of the OS due to a display error on older versions.
  • Fixed the cause of color distortion on laptops whose screens have HDR support.
  • The reason for the quiet sound and the lack of some sound effects in some games has been fixed.

Improvements and bug fixes

  • Fixed the problem of increasing the size of vertical fonts when printing on a PostScript printer.
  • Fixed printing failure from 32-bit applications with the error “Access is denied” when launching applications as another user.
  • The problem was fixed when, while lowering the user’s role, the ability to record on removable media was preserved.
  • The reason for the shutdown of the lsass.exe process was fixed, which in turn led to the system shutting down. This abnormal situation was observed when migrating Data Protection API credentials (DPAPI) using dpapimig.exe with the -domain parameter.
  • Fixed an issue where the Windows Hello for Business service during the renewal of a certificate assigned two authentication certificates instead of a single one.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the browser from connecting securely to the Windows Server machine. The error occurred when using client authentication certificates based on SHA512, when the browser did not support the corresponding certificate signing algorithm.
  • Fixed a possible failure of certificate-based authentication when a preliminary request when trying to authenticate includes cname.
  • Fixed a problem that blocked the launch of the Microsoft App-V application with a network error message. The problem manifested itself in certain circumstances, for example, when the battery is low or when the power supply unexpectedly fails.
  • We fixed an issue where, when querying the Win32_LogonSession class, the StartTime variable returned an epoch value (for example, 1-1-1601 1:00:00) instead of the actual login time. The problem occurred when a request was created by a user without administrator rights.
  • Fixed a problem where Explorer showed a regular icon for files with the attribute FILE_ATTRIBUTE_OFFLINE instead of the expected placeholder icon.
  • Fixed the cause of interruptions when using VPN in mobile data networks.
  • Fixed playback and audio recording crash when connecting to a remote virtual machine.
  • Fixed application crashes due to MSCTF.dll.
  • Fixed a problem with entering and displaying special characters in applications that use imm32.dll.
  • Fixed a problem with resizing Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) applications. These applications may not respond to resizing with the mouse until you release the mouse button.
  • Fixed a problem that could block updating from old to new versions of the OS due to a display error on older versions.
  • Fixed the cause of color distortion on laptops (the screen turned white), which screens have HDR support.
  • Fixed the problem with converting 32-bit applications to 64-bit.
  • Fixed an issue preventing the Active Directory Diagnostics Data Collector Set from starting from Performance Monitor for domain controllers. The error led to the fact that the name of the group of data collectors was empty. When starting the diagnostic tool, the error “The system cannot find the file you need” was displayed. An event was created in the event log with ID 1023, a Perflib source, and the following messages:
    • “Windows cannot load the extensible DLL counter” C:\Windows\system32\ntdsperf.dll “
    • “The specified module was not found.”
  • The reason for the quiet sound and the lack of some sound effects in some games has been fixed.
  • Fixed an issue where the Microsoft App-V application did not correctly handle the CreateProcess API parameter, which in turn prevented the virtual process from starting.
  • We fixed a problem due to which the maximum performance mode was not applied to the processor when choosing the “High Performance” power supply mode.
  • Added a way to adjust the size of the buffer to read. This avoids the problem of slow file uploads to the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) share on WebDAV in Internet Information Services (IIS).
  • Fixed the problem of stopping the operation of devices with the error code “0x27 RDR_FILE_SYSTEM” when opening files from a network share with caching enabled on the client side. The problem occurred if third-party antivirus products were installed on the device and the disk was serviced by a server that was not a Microsoft Server Message Block (SMB) server.
  • Simplified configuration of devices controlled by Mobile Device Management (MDM) service settings created by receiving ADMX. You can upgrade the previously downloaded .admx file to a new version without having to delete the previous .admx file. This solution is suitable for all applications that use ADMX reception.

If you installed previous updates, this time only new changes in the composition of the rollup package will be applied.

Known Issues

  • The Chinese IME input method (there may be other IMEs) can lose responsiveness and cause an increased CPU load on systems. Microsoft notes that the problem affects CHS (Chinese Simplified) and CHT (Chinese Traditional) with Changjie / Quick keyboards. We published a workaround.
