For all supported versions of Windows 10, Microsoft has released Intel firmware updates that protect against attacks that exploit Microarchitectural Data Sampling (MDS) vulnerabilities

Updated: 29.08.2019. New versions of Intel firmware updates (08.2019) are available that protect against attacks that exploit Microarchitectural Data Sampling (MDS) vulnerabilities. Microsoft recommends installing updates for the following Intel processors:

  • Valley View
  • Cherry View
  • Haswell Desktop
  • Haswell M
  • Haswell Xeon E3
  • Gemini Lake*
  • Apollo Lake*

* Updated firmware related to Specter Variant 3a (CVE-2018-3640: “Rogue System Register Read (RSRE)”), Spectre Variant 4 (CVE-2018-3639: “Speculative Store Bypass (SSB)”) and L1TF (CVE-2018-3620, CVE-2018-3646: “L1 Terminal Fault”).

On May 14, 2019, Intel revealed a new group of vulnerabilities in its processors, which it calls the “microarchitectural data sampling” – “Microarchitectural Data Sampling” (MDS) or ZombieLoad. Vulnerabilities are associated with speculative execution attacks, such as Specter or Meltdown, discovered last year. This issue affects all modern Intel processors on servers, desktops, and laptops.

Complete protection against Intel ZombieLoad vulnerability could lead to performance loss by 40%

The following Intel firmware updates are available for devices running all supported versions Windows 10:

Firmware updates are intended for certain models of Intel processors that, with the help of this update, receive protection against the following vulnerabilities:

  • CVE-2019-11091 – Microarchitectural Data Sampling Uncacheable Memory (MDSUM)
  • CVE-2018-12126 – Microarchitectural Store Buffer Data Sampling (MSBDS)?
  • CVE-2018-12127 – Microarchitectural Load Port Data Sampling (MLPDS)
  • CVE-2018-12130 – Microarchitectural Fill Buffer Data Sampling (MFBDS)
