To close a tab, follow these steps:

Click the Close button × on the tab.
On Windows, Linux, and Chrome OS, you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + W.

Disable or remove unnecessary extensions from computer

Extensions are small programs that you can add to Chrome on your computer to enhance its capabilities.

If you don’t use many extensions, you should disable them to speed up Chrome:

Open Chrome on your computer.
In the upper right corner, click the Vertical Trickle icon in the Google Chrome menuMore ToolsExtensions.
To disable the extension, uncheck the Enabled box.
To remove unnecessary extensions, click Remove.

Disable unnecessary plugins on the computer

The plugin will allow you to use additional features in Chrome on your computer, for example, to watch flash animations or PDF documents.

If you don’t use all the plugins, you can disable them to speed up Chrome:

Open Chrome on your computer.
In the address bar, type chrome://plugins/ and press Enter.
To disable the plugin, select Disable.

Make sure page preloading is enabled.

If you want Google Chrome pages to open faster, you can turn on online prediction (preload). Because of this, Chrome will pre-load pages from links that you can open.

Open Chrome on your computer.
In the upper right corner, click the Vertical Trickle icon in the Google Chrome menuSettings.
At the bottom of the page, click Show Advanced settings.
In the Privacy section, select the Use the Prompt Service checkbox to make pages load faster.
